Jorge Linares has tested positive for the coronavirus and has been removed from his fight against Javier Fortuna on Aug. 28, according to his manager Jose De La Cruz.

“He’s feeling OK,” said De La Cruz. “He’s got symptoms, he’s at the hospital, he can’t leave for 10 days. It’s a nightmare for everyone.”

Linares (47-5, 29 KOs), ESPN’s sixth-ranked lightweight, was training for this fight in Japan. Teiken Gym, where he was training, has been closed for the time being.

“We found out (the results) after a pre-fight test was conducted, while (Linares) continued to make good progress (in the gym),” Teiken Promotions, Linares’ lead promoter, said in a statement.

Sources tell ESPN that Golden Boy Promotions, which is staging this card, is still looking to hold the event at Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino in Indio, California, and is looking for an opponent for Fortuna (35-2-1, 24 KOs), the eighth-ranked lightweight by ESPN.
