A. Dillon to return after negative COVID-19 tests

NASCAR

Austin Dillon has been cleared to race this weekend at Dover International Speedway in Delaware following two negative coronavirus tests, Richard Childress Racing announced Thursday.

Dillon did not compete in Sunday’s Cup Series race on Daytona International Speedway’s road course after RCR said he tested positive last Saturday.

Dillon experienced mild symptoms and sought a test on his own. He self-quarantined, and his wife and newborn son remained healthy and symptom-free, the team said.

Dillon was the third Cup Series driver to test positive for the COVID-19, joining seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson and part-timer Brendan Gaughan. Johnson missed just one race.

The 30-year-old Dillon already qualified for NASCAR’s playoffs by winning at Texas last month.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
