Sources: Facing quarantine, KD to miss 4 games

NEW YORK — After being exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant is facing a week-long quarantine as part of the league’s health and safety protocols, sources told ESPN.

Durant, who had COVID-19 back in May, has continued to register coronavirus antibodies, sources said. As of Monday afternoon, Durant had tested negative for coronavirus three times, sources said.

According to the Center for Disease Control, antibodies are “proteins that help fight off infections and can provide protection against getting that disease again.” Scientists are still unsure of what degree of immunity antibodies provide against being infected again. The NBA’s COVID-19 protocols do not distinguish between players who have antibodies and those who do not.

In the week that Durant is slated to miss, Brooklyn is scheduled to play Utah, Philadelphia, Memphis and Oklahoma City.

Durant, who missed the entirety of the 2019-20 season rehabbing an Achilles injury, has started in all six of the Nets’ games this year. He is averaging 28.2 points, 7 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game in 34 minutes of playing time.
