Angels’ Fowler out for season after tearing ACL

MLB

Los Angeles Angels right fielder Dexter Fowler suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Sunday.

Fowler appeared to suffer the injury during Friday’s win over the Toronto Blue Jays when he took an awkward step on second base.

The Angels said Fowler is expected to need six to nine months to recover after surgery.

Fowler, 35, joined the Angels in the offseason when he was traded by the St. Louis Cardinals. He was hitting .250 with one RBI in 20 at-bats in 2021 while playing on the final season of a five-year contract.

Fowler had been considered a short-term solution in right field so they could give more minor league development time to Jo Adell and Brandon Marsh.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
