Packers reach deal with ex-Cowboys LB Smith

NFL

Former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith has reached agreement on a one-year contract with the Green Bay Packers, his agent, Doug Hendrickson of Wasserman, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Smith did not miss a game in four-plus seasons with the Cowboys and was a Pro Bowler in 2019. The 26-year-old has totaled 9 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions in 68 career games.

But Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that “multiple factors” went into the decision to release Smith, calling it a “big-picture roster move.”

The Packers had been considered the favorite to sign Smith, who had received interest from multiple NFL teams.
