Taylor-Catterall scoring to be investigated

The British Boxing Board of Control has confirmed it will investigate the scoring of Josh Taylor’s split-point victory over Jack Catterall on Saturday.

Taylor controversially retained his WBC, IBF, WBA and WBO junior welterweight titles at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, despite challenger Catterall flooring the 31-year-old in the eighth round and out-boxing him for most of the fight.

Taylor was awarded scores of 114-111 and 113-112, with the other going 113-112 to Catterall.

“The British Boxing Board of Control will be investigating the scoring of this contest and will advise accordingly,” a brief statement said.

It was Taylor’s third world title defense and his first on home soil since he was crowned champion at the same venue in May 2019.
