Hawk-Eye has apologised to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after making an error during a review in a Pakistan Super League match (PSL) between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Friday. The incident occured on the final delivery of the 11th over when United spinner Agha Salman’s delivery hit the frond pad of Gladiators batter Rossouw in front of stumps. Ground umpire Aleem Dar raised his finger to the appeal but Rossouw sent it upstairs. The review, however, left everyone surprised as the Hawk-Eye showed that the ball would have missed the off stump. This saw the umpire’s decision of out being overturned and Rossouw survived.

Hawk-Eye later acknowledged that it was an error from its end and it also wrote a letter of apology to PCB chief operating officer Salman Naseer and the production department, stated ESPNcricinfo in a report. Hawk-Eye accepted that ball tracking showed during the review did not reflect the path of the actual delivery, added the report.

The error saw Rilee Rossouw scoring 34 not out to guide Gladiators home in 18.2 overs in the chase of 139. The Gladiators won the game by 3 wickets and Rossouw was named the Player of the Match.

Meanwhile, United captain Shadab Khan, whose team ended up on the losing side, vented out his frustration at the DRS (Descision Review System) after the game.

“I think technology was at fault for this loss. We were shown a different ball as to the review ( the review of Rossouw). I bowled 4 overs as a leg spinner, it wasn’t turning much. This one showed impact outside off and spinning away further. In a big tournament like this, there shouldn’t be such mistakes,” said Shadab.
