Japan has delivered Max Verstappen a boost to his title defence, as the Red Bull driver also collected the extra point for fastest lap. Team-mate Sergio Perez jumps back into second place, 13 points behind Verstappen, after his runners-up spot at Suzuka.

Another podium finish for Carlos Sainz isn’t quite enough to move him clear of Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc, but the gap between the pair is just four points.
