Alexandrova tops Mexico’s Zarazua in Monterrey

MONTERREY, Mexico — Third-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia beat local favorite Renata Zarazua 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Monterrey Open.

Alexandrova advanced to face seventh-seeded Yue Yuan of China, a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Petra Martic in the WTA 500 hard court event at Sonoma Club.

Also, fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina beat Elina Avanesyan 6-4, 6-3 to set up a quarterfinal against sixth-seeded Linda Noskova, a 6-4, 7-6 (11) winner over Xiyu Wang.

Ninth-seeded Magdalena Frech topped Lina Glushko 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-1. Frech will face the winner of the late match between second-seeded Emma Navarro and Camila Osorio.
