Frankie Edgar, a former UFC lightweight champion who has competed at featherweight for the past several years, will make his bantamweight debut against Pedro Munhoz in the main event of UFC Fight Night on Saturday at the promotion’s Apex facility in Las Vegas.
The main card is on ESPN and ESPN+, starting at 8:30 p.m. ET, with the prelims on ESPN+ starting at 5:30 p.m.
Edgar (23-8-1, 17-8-1 in the UFC) has lost his past two fights, but the first of those was a challenge of then-featherweight champion Max Holloway. It was his third unsuccessful attempt to win the 145-pound belt, including a shot at an interim strap in 2016. Edgar, 38, also made an unsuccessful bid to regain his 155-pound belt after losing it in 2011.
Munhoz (18-4, 1 NC; 8-4, 1 NC UFC) has not fought since losing to Aljamain Sterling in June 2019. But he had won his previous three in a row.
These two were scheduled to meet on July 15, but Munhoz was pulled from that bout after testing positive for COVID-19.
The co-main event is a light heavyweight bout between veteran Ovince Saint Preux, who has lost three of his past four, and Alonzo Menifield, who suffered his first career loss in June.
