Sources: Watson has asked Texans to trade him

NFL

Quarterback Deshaun Watson has requested a trade from the Houston Texans, league sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday.

Watson made the request to the team weeks ago, sources told ESPN.

The Texans’ new head coaching hire, David Culley, has not and will not alter Watson’s thinking, sources told ESPN.

Watson hasn’t spoken to new Texans general manager Nick Caserio or executive Jack Easterby, sources told ESPN.

The quarterback has a no-trade clause in his five-year, $156 million deal with the Texans, which would give Watson some control over where he is traded because if it wasn’t the destination he wanted, he could decline to report.
