Rombauer beat out Medina Spirit and Midnight Bourbon down the stretch to win the 2021 Preakness Stakes.
Rombauer entered the second leg of the Triple Crown at 11-1 odds.
Disputed Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit finished third after clearing three rounds of prerace testing on Friday.
Trainer Bob Baffert released a statement before Saturday’s race, reiterating that the colt’s win two weeks ago was “the result of the horse’s tremendous heart and nothing else.”
He also insisted “there was never any attempt to game or cheat the system” — references to the horse’s postrace positive test for a steroid at Churchill Downs.
Midnight Bourbon, the early favorite, finished second.
