Wednesday’s game between the Nationals and Phillies in Philadelphia has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues involving members of the Washington organization, the league announced.
Sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan that multiple players and coaches tested positive Wednesday, a day after Nationals All-Star shortstop Trea Turner was pulled in the first inning of Tuesday’s game after returning a positive test.
MLB said in a statement that the game was postponed to “allow for continued testing and contact tracing involving members of the Nationals organization.” The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, with the first game scheduled for 12:05 p.m. ET.
The timeline for Turner’s positive result suggests his test was taken Monday.
Nationals manager Dave Martinez told reporters that he couldn’t comment on whether Turner has been vaccinated.
Washington also dealt with a COVID-19 outbreak ahead of Opening Day, forcing the team to start its season five days later than it was supposed to.
