UFC lightweight fighter Luis Pena has been arrested for the second time in five months.
According to online inmate records, Pena was taken into custody on Saturday in Deerfield Beach, Florida, on charges of battery causing bodily harm and battery domestic violence. He is being held on $1,000 bond at the Broward County Detention Center.
Broward County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Gerdy St. Louis told ESPN that Deerfield Beach deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at about 12:34 a.m. Saturday.
“On scene, deputies made contact with multiple subjects, and Luis Antonio Pena was later detained and taken into custody,” St. Louis wrote in an email.
Pena’s attorney, Daniel Martinez, declined comment and the UFC didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment.
Pena, 28, was arrested in June on charges of robbery by sudden snatching, battery and criminal mischief after a fight with his girlfriend, a Coral Springs (Florida) Police Department spokesperson told ESPN at the time.
According to online court records, the robbery by sudden snatching charge has been dropped, but Pena is still facing charges of battery and criminal mischief in Florida’s Palm Beach County. Both of those charges are misdemeanors, and Pena has a court date scheduled for Oct. 28. He has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
On Aug. 30, Pena’s girlfriend filed an affidavit in the June case requesting the charges be dismissed and that she does not desire the case be prosecuted any further, according to court records.
Pena is 9-3 as a pro MMA fighter and is 5-3 in the UFC. He has not fought since a split decision win over Alexander Munoz in April. Pena is not currently booked for another bout.
