McCann-Blanchfield matchup set for UFC 281

UFC flyweight Molly McCann will look to continue her breakout year in 2022, when she takes on Erin Blanchfield in November.

The UFC has added a 125-pound contest between McCann (13-4) and Blanchfield (9-1) to its UFC 281 lineup on Nov. 12 in Madison Square Garden. Both flyweights announced the bout on their respective social media accounts Thursday.

Fighting out of Liverpool, McCann has been signed to the UFC since 2018, but has seen her popularity surge this year behind back-to-back highlight-reel finishes in her native England. She knocked out Luana Carolina with a spinning back elbow in March, and then repeated the feat by knocking out Hannah Goldy with a spinning elbow and punches in July.

McCann, 32, is also a close friend and training partner to UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett, who has also enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2022. Pimblett is expected to compete on the New York card as well, although the UFC has not made that official.

Blanchfield fights out of New York and is considered one of the top prospects at 125 pounds. The 23-year-old is 3-0 in the UFC, including a finish over JJ Aldrich in her most recent appearance.

Blanchfield and McCann are the Nos. 13 and 15 ranked flyweights in the UFC, respectively.
