Dubs’ Curry fined $25K for tossing mouthpiece

SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has been fined $25,000 for “throwing his mouthpiece into the spectator stands” during Wednesday night’s 122-120 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, the league announced on Friday.

The incident occurred with 1:14 remaining after Jordan Poole took what Curry thought was an ill-advised 3-pointer.

Curry received a technical foul and was subsequently ejected from the game.

“It was a crucial time in the game, and the way that our season has gone, questions about a heightened sense of urgency … when you want something really bad … I reacted in a way that put myself out of the game and put the team in a tough place,” Curry said after the game.

This was Curry’s third ejection in his career. Both other ejections also involved his mouthpiece — in Game 6 of the 2016 finals when he threw it at the courtside seats, and in 2017 when he threw it at a referee.

“He knows he can’t make that mistake again,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.
