Backstedt wins U23 European cyclo-cross gold

Britain’s Zoe Backstedt won the women’s Under-23 European Cyclo-cross Championships in Pont-Chateau, France.

The 19-year-old Welsh rider held off the challenge of Luxembourg’s Marie Schreiber, with Kristyna Zemanova of the Czech Republic in third.

Backstedt has now added the cyclo-cross title to the Road European Championships women’s Under-23 time trial gold she won in September.

She also won two silvers at February’s World Cyclo-cross Championships.
