In a formidable display of six-hitting, India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal took the charge against England great James Anderson. Jaiswal, looking to race towards his second double century, hit Anderson for 3 consecutive sixes on Day 4 of the third Test against England. Jaiswal who had retired hurt after scoring a century on Day 3, returned to the pitch after Shubman Gill‘s dismissal on Day 4. In no time, he brought up his 150 and then looked to accelerate while chasing the 200-run milestone.

The first six of the three from Jaiswal’s bat came on the leg-side after Anderson bowled a full-toss on the pads. For the next delivery, Jaiswal stepped down the pitch and smashed the ball over the head of the cover fielder.

On the third instance, Jaiswal took a step back and smashed Anderson down the ground for a stunning six. The situation even prompted England captain Ben Stokes to have a word with Anderson.

Jaiswal eventually brought up his double century while also taking India’s lead past the 500-run mark. In the process, Jaiswal matched the record of hitting the most number of sixes in a single Test innings. He hit 12 sixes in the second innings. Pakistan’s Wasim Akram held the record before Jaiswal joined him at the No. 1 spot.

The India star also became the first batter in the history of the game to score 20 sixes in a single Test series. With two more matches to go in the series, the opening batter is set to better the record even further.

The Indian team set a target of 557 runs for England to chase, riding on Jaiswal’s double century while Sarfaraz Khan also notched up his second consecutive half-century of the match.
