Twins option slumping 1B/OF Kiriloff to minors

The Minnesota Twins optioned first baseman/outfielder Alex Kirilloff to Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday and recalled utility man Austin Martin.

After career highs of 11 home runs and 41 RBIs in 88 games in 2023, Kirilloff is batting .201 with five homers and 20 RBIs in 57 games this season. The 26-year-old’s on-base percentage is at a career-low .270 over the 2½ months.

In 249 games over four seasons with the Twins, Kirilloff is a career .248 hitter with 27 home runs and 116 RBIs.

Martin, 25, made his major league debut earlier this season. He has a .224 batting average and a .289 on-base percentage to go along with one home run and six RBIs in 30 games for Minnesota.
