Mbappé nets first hat trick as Madrid go 4 clear

Kylian Mbappé scored his first Real Madrid hat trick in a 3-0 win against Real Valladolid on Saturday, a result that sees Los Blancos go four points clear at the top of the LaLiga standings.

The France captain opened the scoring in the 30th minute following a sharp one-two with Jude Bellingham that finished with an emphatic right-footed strike past Karl Hein in the Valladolid net.

For his second, Mbappé combined well with Rodrygo after a lightning counter-attack in the 57th minute, collecting the ball on the left-hand side of the penalty box and slotting past the goalkeeper.

Madrid controlled much of the remainder of the game though it looked like Mbappé would go without the match ball at the final whistle. However, in stoppage time, the referee judged that Mario Martín‘s slide tackle on Bellingham was worthy of a penalty kick (and indeed a red card) after going to the pitchside VAR monitor, and the 26-year-old summer signing duly scored again to wrap up the contest.

Madrid’s win extends their lead atop the table after Atlético Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Villarreal. Barcelona host Valencia on Sunday but would remain seven points behind their Clásico rivals with a win.
