Garcia-Campbell on Dec. 5 to be afternoon fight

The lightweight fight between Ryan Garcia and Luke Campbell in Los Angeles on Dec. 5 for the WBC interim title will be an afternoon bout, so as not to conflict with another major title fight that night.

Unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. faces Danny Garcia at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, that night. The time has not yet been determined, but DAZN said it was looking to schedule the fight for the early evening on the East Coast.

“It’s not a logistical nightmare,” said Oscar De La Hoya, the founder of Golden Boy Promotions, on Monday’s edition of “The 3 Knockdown Rule” podcast. “This fight [Garcia-Campbell] will be in the afternoon. Their fight will be taking place in the evening, so it gives everyone enough time to do what they have to do.”

Garcia-Campbell will be streamed on DAZN, while the Spence-Garcia fight will be a pay-per-view offering.

Spence-Garcia was originally scheduled for Nov. 21, but when the state of Texas started to allow limited audiences, this show was moved to Dec. 5 to allow a live gate.

It’s still not clear where Garcia-Campbell will ultimately take place, as they continue to try to lock down a location.

“We are not sure yet whether we want a crowd or not for this fight,” De La Hoya said. “So we are still searching for venues, we’re still trying to tie up the loose ends.”
